Thanks to
illyria_novia's link to Write or Die, I managed to cough up ~300 words in 20 minutes and this is the result. I cheated a bit though. The original, on-the-spot snippet that I did was not quite fit for public posting so I tweaked it here and there. No idea where this is going and concrits are very much appreciated!
Sam and Dean, gen, 300 words.
Dean looks up at the digital clock on the bedside table. It's almost 2 am and he has been tossing and turning in his bed for hours. He shivers and pulls the blanket up to his neck, glancing over at Sam lying on his side in the next bed. He's sleeping; snoring even. The cold doesn't seem to bother him one bit, his bedcovers pooling at his feet. Dean bets that Sam feels like a furnace now. He's tempted to go lie down beside his brother. Steal some of that heat. But he doesn't. Closes his eyes and tries to ignore the cold. The heater's not really working and Dean has given up trying to fix it.
Sam mumbles in his sleep. Dean, please.. Dean looks over at his brother. Sam's lying on his back now, eyes moving erratically behind shuttered lids. He's sweating, the front of his night shirt damp and sticking to his chest.
Dean's about to get up to and shake Sam awake when Sam's next words stops him, Don't leave, Dean, don't leave.
Dean's head falls back on his pillow with a thump. He glances over at the bottles of pills on the dressing table. Red, white, green, blue - he grimaces to himself. Drugs of all kinds. Painkillers, mostly. They can't really afford them but Sam has insisted. Not that they're doing much good.
Sam's whimpering now and there are tears running down his cheeks. Dean sighs and he gets up, gets into bed with Sam.
He gently shakes Sam's shoulders. "Sammy, wake up."
Sam is wide awake almost immediately. He looks up at Dean in alarm. "Dean, what's wrong? You hurting?"
Dean wipes the dampness off Sam's face with the back of his hand. "You were crying in your sleep, Sammy," he says softly.

Have you ever tried Free Download Manager? You can probably search for a free download. It lets you split MF downloads into sections so it goes by quicker.

Date: 2009-07-25 11:46 pm (UTC)That 'Write Or Die' thing, together with this Self-editing (http://community.livejournal.com/spnroundtable/162884.html#cutid1) write-up someone posted a few days ago, it sorta encourage me to write. I guess I didn't really get the "first draft" and "self-editing" thing because I almost always ended up horrified at what I wrote and deleted everything. I mean, I read a lot so I know what is good or what is not, even if I most of the time I can't really tell why it's good/bad! Oh God, I'm rambling, am I not? *head-desk*

Date: 2009-07-26 01:34 pm (UTC)Write or Die is great, I think, because you can't psyche yourself out- you just get the words down, and it's really great practice.
We are all our own most severe critics. Your writing is much better than you give yourself credit for!!! Don't be so quick to delete. The best thing to do is put it away and re-read it a little later.
