of books and men who wrote love-stories
Aug. 4th, 2005 11:39 amI've just finished reading James Patterson's Sam's Letters To Jennifer. Finished it within one day too, a record of sorts because since I discovered lj and its wonderful slash fanfics I never seem to be able to finish a book in less than 2 months ( the HP-books being the exception ).
Patterson wrote a lot of thrillers, some good some not so good, all of them bestsellers but this particular book is a love-story. Quite a novelty IMO for a man to write a romantic love-story, a good one too, and one written from a woman's POV, on top of everything. I dont know any other male novelist who write romance novels as well as he does. Heck he could even give some of the women writers, Danielle Steele for one, a run for their money. His other love story, Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas is good too.
Talking about men who wrote love-stories, does anyone know of any male slash-writers in the Lotr fandom? I'd love to read their fics, if there are any. I've read somewhere that more than 90%of slash are written and read by women so it'd be interesting to read that other 10% And there's this newspaper article someone had written about slash and it was quite an interesting read. Or you can read it here if you cant read that one.
Still on books, one of my favourite author is Allan Hollinghurst. I love his books not so much for the stories themselves but for the way he wrote them. I could just melt just from reading his beautiful lines. His books are about the love-lives of gays. One example of his lovely style is this paragraph ( one of the character in one of his novels The Spell was falling out of love with his boyfriend ) :
He thought how uncertain sex-magic was. It struck, and there was a tingle in the air around a man, and when you touched him it flowed around you too. Some people kept it for you for years, and when you saw them there was the same dependable shock, the shiver of rightness, the cool burn deep between the legs, the gentle thump on the chest, the private surrender of a smile. And with others it faded, like a torch left on, or with the quick disillusion that followed a hit of coke.
*sigh*

Date: 2005-08-05 06:43 am (UTC)( Are they as good as the women writers? )
I couldn't possibly comment! You'll have to read for yourself!
Well, my Celebrity is based on Exquisite Corpse. EC is a VERY gory book, but there's some great sex in it, too. Her books are available on Amazon. That's where I bought mine. If you do read her, I'd suggest you start with Lost Souls or Drawing Blood - both wonderful, gorgeous stories!

Date: 2005-08-05 05:56 pm (UTC)I haven't seen Bumblebee yet, but I think it's one that JaneJaneJane recorded onto DVD for me, so it's waiting to be watched. Along with several others, including Eternal Sunshine! Must get around to it!
The only Lij films I've watched really are LOTR, Faculty (adore), Forever Young, Sudden Impact, Flipper (*sigh*) and... I can't remember what else. Poss more. I have several in my collection awaiting viewing! How about you, hon?

Date: 2005-08-05 11:42 pm (UTC)What do you think of his kissing scenes in all the other movies? With the exception of that farewell kiss between Frodo/Sam I think Elijah does not kiss girls very well, what do you think?
I remember reading a fic some time ago, I cant remember who wrote it, it was an Orlijah in which Orli commented to Elijah that he ( Elijah ) needed to be taught how to kiss properly on screen. Orli did just that and in return Elijah taught him how to do a blowjob properly LOL

Date: 2005-08-06 06:10 am (UTC)I haven't seen too many kissing scenes. BUT. I have to say that his kiss with Delilah in Faculty was excrutiating. The poor boy did NOT want to be kissing that girl! Most awkward. Give him a hot boy to snog, for Christ's sake!
Heh, that fic sounds like just the thing!
