I finally got to watch S3/07.

*** Spoilery pics under the cut ***

That final scene, it tore at my heart. It's even more heart-wrenching than

7. Dean calling John in 'Home'. "Dad, I don't know what to do."

6. Sam dying himself watching Dean dying.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

5. Sam and Dean watching their father being burned at the pyre.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

No tears, none *seen* anyway, unlike in this scene.
4. where Dean poured his heart out to Sam. Why he felt that he shouldn't be alive.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Even more moving than
3. John making his final appearance. Omg, the sight of him flickering like the ghost he was, fairly broke me.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

2. Dean saying "I'm tired, Sam. The intent to end his own life clear in his voice and expressions.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Oh Dean, you made me cry like a baby when you gave him
*your* baby. No tears, nothing OTT, just you handing over your most prized possession to the person you love most in the world. This, this is the most moving scene for me from the entire episodes from S1 to 3.

You know, when we were little - I mean, you couldn't have been more than five - you just started asking questions.
How come we didn't have a mom?
Why do we always have to move around?
Where'd dad go when he'd take off for days at a time?
I remember I begged you - "Quit asking, Sammy. Man, you don't wanna know."
I just wanted you to be a kid, just for a little while longer.

I always tried to protect you ...keep you safe.
Dad didn't even have to tell me.
It was just always my responsibility, you know?

It's like I had one job...I had one job...and I screwed it up.

I blew it.
And for that, I'm sorry.
I guess that's what I do. I let down the people I love.

I let Dad down. And now I guess I'm just supposed to let you down, too.
How can I?
How am I supposed to live with that?
What am I supposed to do?
Sammy. God.
What am I supposed to do?
What am I supposed to do?!

I think what I like best about that scene is its -- subtlity. There was no overt drama or anything. I like how Dean was sort of half-smiling, looking like he was at peace with himself. And Sam, whom I thought was going to go all emo on Dean, but instead he just accepted quietly, even laughing a bit. And that made me cry all the more!

I like the fact that they can delve deep into the characters and bring out all these powerful emotions without being over the top about it. It's very rare to see them overtly emotional. It's all below the surface, but they let us see it in the things they do and say, and the way they do and say them. That's marvelous acting, and very good writing.

*agrees whole-heartedly*

Especially Dean. His face is just so expressive - a glance, a smile, the raise of an eyebrow ( well-shaped ). Which is why I don't quite like the first episode 'The Magnificent Seven'. The way Jensen was made to do Dean, the sex and the eating and all.

My faith in Kripke has returned :)

Most gut-wrenching? I guess when Jake had just knifed Sam in the back and Dean was on his knees, trying to tell Sam it wasn't even that bad, then realizing Sam was dead. That scene hurt.

Then this final scene in 3.7 was so sweet - the way Dean accepts his fate in a way that doesn't involve him trying to be funny to cover up his fear. That Sam accepts a lesson in how to fix the Impala - while fully understanding what Dean mean yet without trying to walk away from the reality they are facing.

I didn't express that very well. But yeah, the car-fixing scene is totally loving and lovable.

Date: 2007-11-23 03:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com
You expressed that very well indeed. It's all done so subtly, not in so much words yet the impact is like WHAM!

But there's just this one tiny thing that bothers me a little, is Sam really that ignorant when it comes to cars? He doesn't even know which one is the carburettor?

That Jake scene? I have Dean's monologue on my phone, and I listen to it over and over again. I'll take care of you

Yup, I've watched this ep twice and cried both times at this scene. I love Dean, the big brother! My other 2 favorites are Dean holding Sam at the end of AHBL1, telling him "It's not that bad..." and Bobby telling Dean "have you got that low an opinion of yourself?"

Gets me every time...

Bobby telling Dean "have you got that low an opinion of yourself"

That one was angsty alright because we *know* what Dean's answer to that would be, right? And trust Bobby to get right to the heart of Dean's insecurities.

Oh Dean ...

Ooh, yay. I *knew* you were gonna love that ep!

Another heart wrenching scene? From Shadow, I believe:

Dean: Why do you think I drag you everywhere? Huh? I mean, why do you think I came and got you at Stanford in the first place?
Sam: 'Cause Dad was in trouble. 'Cause you wanted to find the thing that killed Mom.
Dean: Yes, that, but it's more than that, man. You and me and Dad, I mean, I want us... I want us to be together again. I want us to be a family again.
Sam: Dean, we are a family. I'd do anything for you. But things will never be the way they were before.
Dean: Could be.
Sam: I don't want them to be. I'm not gonna live this life forever. Dean, when this is all over, you're gonna have to let me go my own way.

I love Sam, but that's one instance that I came very close to disliking him. I do understand his need to have his own life, but I'm selfish like Dean ( yes, in his own way, Dean is just as selfish as Sam ), I want he and Sam to be together always!

I love their phone conversation after that, then Sam came to rescue Dean and everything is alright with the world again.

*sighs*

That was one seriously great acting, wasn't it? I wish they shot the scene from when Dean was holding Sam in his arms at the end of AHBL1 to the beginning of AHBL2. Do you know of any fics depicting that particular scene?

I cried at that scene too. It was such a happy, normal, brother-brother moment until Dean ruined it with the whole "I'm gonna die soon" bit, and it became this desperate, affectionate moment.

I also found the scene earlier in the episode, where Sam begs Dean to drop the act and just start being his brother again, very heart-wrenching.

Oh yes, and when Sam said that Dean was terrified, I could practically *hear* Dean's wall came crashing down, that he knew that Sam knew what he was feeling deep down.

And Dean's expression during that Impala-repair scene - it's one of resignation, *BAWLS*

And I'm hoping that we'll get to see more of Sam driving the Impala soon!

When Sam died in Dean's arms. I was hysterically sobbing and couldn't sleep all night. I just kept replaying it in my head, over and over. TERRIBLE! And then the ep after, when Dean was talking to his dead brother, crying, remembering when he was little. Tore my heart right out. And of course, when Sam had to shoot Madison, and there was that one lone tear falling down Dean's face. Love, Robin

Every single one of those scenes you chose are right up there for me as well.

Two other scenes that had me shedding tears were in "What is". Dean talking to John at his grave and then at the end when Mary and the others were trying to convince Dean to stay.

Having said that, though, this scene in "Fresh Blood" had me crying just the same. Dean's resignation to the fact that no matter how scared he is, no matter how scared Sam knows he is, nothing has changed. He's still dying, and they both know that there is a very big possibility that there is nothing they can do to change that.

These boys break my heart more and more every week.

You know, they could have made Sam refusing to do the car-repair thing. Made him go all emo and saying that he's going to save Dean and all that. I'm GLAD they didn't. It's SO MUCH BETTER they way it was. Somehow, even if Sam didn't say it, I still *got* it, that he's going to save Dean, and he's going along, well, not exactly to humour Dean, but because he knew that it'd make Dean happy to see Sam take care of his baby. Am I making sense?

Yup, all gut wrenching, but the only three scenes I have cried from (I didn't cry for Dean's Monologue to Dead Sammy cause I was spoiled so I knew he was coming back, and I didn't cry in Heart when Sammy had to off Maddy, cause I was spoiled for that too LOL) Anyways, the ones that did have me in tears were:

When John tells the boys what he wishes for "Mary to be alive, Sam to go to school, Dean to have a home" his voice cracked when he said Mary to be alive, and it showed how well he knows his sons, despite his stand-offish ways sometimes, he knew what they both wanted.

When Dean asks John's grave why he has to be a hero, probably because the tears were streaming down his face is what put me over the edge.

And when John came back to save his boys from the YED and the look of pride on his face before he disappeared in a swirly white mist, I don't think more words have ever been said in silence before!!! I seriously had to stop it because I was weeping so hard!!

So those are the only crying moments I have had so far... :) Yours were gut wrenching though!! Nice job!

And when John came back to save his boys from the YED and the look of pride on his face before he disappeared in a swirly white mist

OMG yes ( my #3). And the flickerings really did me in. Because before that, it was the ghosts that they hunt that do that, and when I saw John himself doing that *breaks down*

And the look of absolute pride when he looked at his sons, esp at Dean, the look that said "you did right, son" and Dean getting it, too. And John was not that free with his compliments when he was alive and Dean ( if not Sam ) was always striving for his father's approval, and to see John finally giving it to him, *then*.

he wishes for "Mary to be alive, Sam to go to school, Dean to have a home"

The angst for me was mainly from John wishing for Dean to have a home, because he was acknowledging that Dean didn't have a home, Dean specifically, not Sam, because I guess he realized that it's quite possible for Sam to have his white-pickets but not Dean, and that made me feel really, really sad.

How on earth did he manage to do that anyway? It's real, isn't it, not a fake tear? Are there any interviews in which he was asked on how he did that?
And I think someone mentioned somewhere that it was always from the same eye.

I was all choked up because everything seemed so -- final, for want of a better word. Dean must have felt that time was running out on him. And the way he was sitting on that box, not looking while Sam was fiddling with the Impala. It was like "Okay, Sam would be okay. The *Impala* would be okay. Because Sam's going to take care of it. Everything's going to be fine." Telling himself that over and over again. And probably refusing to think what would happen to he himself.

Oh, I just want to reach out and hug Dean right there and then. Or better still, I want Sam to do that to him. Do tell me when you come across some good codas, okay?
